Where have those happy times gone ?

I still reminisce about the old times, where I used to have friends in each floor in my building. Our entire building used to be one huge family, rushing to the aid of others in times of distress or celebrating various festivals together. I still remember me being invited for Makar Sankranti festivities to my neighbor's home, while we invite them for Pongal. I remember me being invited to partake in a special dinner party for Christmas, by a friend who was my neighbor, while we shared the spirit of Diwali together. Where have those happy times gone ?

I recall of those happy times, when I used to be the only girl player in the local boys' football team, appreciated for my goal keeping skills, leading our team to victory.  I remember having a chess challenge with my friend, where it was purely based on a time-pass intent, during the searing heat of the summer wave in UAE. Where have those happy times gone ?

I still look back on those happy memories where the entire class used to be one whole friends group, where there was no space for enmity or jealousy. Where have those happy times gone ?

In this age of technology and scientific advancements, the competitive spirit also has increased. No longer are we close friends with neighbors, (we don't even know who they are 😥). We are no longer friendly or easy-going with whom we consider our friends. We are protective of our inner core and have become introverted in nature. No longer do we look upon our friends as a true friend, but just as another person to compete with and emerge as a winner.

As we progressively face the future, we are becoming true embodiments of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution- Survival of the fittest. We are intent upon achieving our goals, that we don't focus on building our social relationships.

Ironically, we are becoming the robots of the future, while we are focusing on giving robots feelings :D

Let's build healthy social relationships to last a lifetime

Your friend,

Sashini
